Boot Camp
The most important thing that I've learned in Boot Camp was the "they say" component in an essay. This is important because the writer needs to use support in their essay that either supports their opinion or even be in opposition. The writer should be able to address the naysayer. This will provide the essay with logos. It is very important in a paper to have support in the essay and most importantly address the other side. This will keep people interested in reading the essay. Once again, I believe the "they say" component is important because it covers the foundation of the rest of the essay. Little changes can be made, but the main issue components of the essay are already there. Finally, in an essay that is argumentative, the "they say" is critical because if the reader disagrees with the author's opinion then they will not want to read the essay.

I agree with your view on the importance of "they say." Before boot camp I never really focused on the they say in my writing. Instead I would focus on the I say, and what my own argument was. Learning this in boot camp will help me know what to look for in the revision process, and will make my writing stronger.
ReplyDeleteThe "they say" is probably close to the most important part of the essay. I always thought sources were just sort of their because they were required in your essay. Now though I know that it is an essential component of the essay and that choosing sources wisely is really important.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the "they say" was a very important component to my writing. Having support in you essay is the second most important thing in writing a good essay. Something i picked up fro these sources is that you need to pick sources that have a strong argument. also you want to have a source that agree with you but in different ways. "they say" was a very vital component that we learned in Bootcamp and will really help my papers in the future
